Dan's tips
Bicycling is fun! Here's some tips to keep the fun rolling:
Never lock your bike with a cable lock
- Bike theft is unfortunately common in the Bay Area but can easily be avoided by using a u-lock, never a cable lock.
- If your wheels are quick release, make sure to lock those up too!
Use Google Maps to find bike directions
- Google Maps is awesome! Give it a destination and it will route you using as many bike friendly routes as possible
Patch your innertubes
- Millions of perfectly good innertubes are sent to the landfill that could be easily patched and re-used. You save five bucks too!
- A patched tube is just as good as new; it will hold air just as well
Ride with traffic and never on the sidewalk
- This may seem scary to those not used to it, but it is the safest way to ride.
- Statistically, most bike-car collissions are a result of riding on the sidewalk or riding against traffic
Keep your tires inflated
- Keeping tires inflated will prevent "pinch" flats and make you go faster!
- Each tire will have printed on its sidewall its max or recommended pressure.
- Skinny low volume tires need air more often, around twice a month
