How to make a free saddle lock
Materials needed: 1) spent unpatchable innertube, 2) spent stretched bicycle chain, 3) chain tool
Your local bike shop should be able to supply you with the tube and chain for free or you might already have this lying around.
The basic premise is simple: loop a piece of chain around the saddle’s rails securing it to the frame. The lock is the chain link, the key is a chain breaker tool. A crook could be carrying around one of these tools but really, the odds aren’t great. To protect the frame and saddle rails, the chain is wrapped in innertube
So there you go, an easy and free way to lock up your spendy leather saddle

Are people really having their saddles stolen? While I don’t have an expensive Brooks, I do have a fairly spendy (to me) WTB saddle and never once did I think about the possibility of it getting stolen. Your idea is a good one.
Unfortunately so. Quick releases are of course especially vulnerable but Brooks in general are very attractive to thieves (at least here in the Bay Area)
You’re telling me you break a chain every time you unlock your bike. Or does the seat lock just stay on at all times?
Haha no no, it stays on there permanently

I’ve had my saddle stolen before and it only took them 5 minutes while I popped into a shop. It’s worrying how easy they can take it. I will have to try this lock out. I’ve been putting off using my bike since as I don’t want to have to pay out for another saddle.
