Cambridge, Mass. installs self-help bike station
![]()
Little things go a long way sometimes: take this self-help bike station for instance. It’s a simple, (comparatively) cheap small station with air pump, tools and patches that, I think, greatly improves the cycling infrastructure of an area. UC Davis had/has one of these as well. I think they’re a great idea!

Kick it old school with this candle powered bike light

OK ok, not actually real (or useful).

Funky bike by Vanhulsteijn

Funky bikes like these are usually confined to the realm of “concept” only but this my friends, is a production bike. Check it out http://www.vanhulsteijn.com/website/#/bikes/project1/0
Seriously? Really? Kitted out 8yr old at a race
Dear parents of this poor child: Really? You thought this was a good idea? Does your douchebaggery know no bounds?
Yes, this is seriously a young kid in what appears to be a casual childrens bike race kitted out in a skinsuit and aero helmet riding a couple grand worth of carbon fiber
Now THIS is a secure bike lock
Just make sure there’s plenty of charge left in those batteries….and no one parks beneath you with another one of these wild contraptions
Hack yourself an Ikea bike rack
Ikea hasn’t yet got into the bike accessory market but here’s an example of a clever way to use their off the shelf parts to make one of your own: a floor to ceiling indoor bike rack

All you need to get from ikea is one stolmen post, two brackets and four hooks. you’ll also need some screws and some aluminium 20x20mm square pipe, maybe some foam rubber.

LA City Council Passes Cyclist Anti-Discrimination Ordinance
Los Angeles City Council has unanimously approved a new ordinance that seeks to end harassment of bicyclists by motorists; a persistent problem all over our car obsessed United States but especially so in LA. The ordinance makes harassing a cyclist a civil violation that could lead to court judgment awarding up to $1000 to the victim (plus court and attorney fees). Harassing a road user is already in the vehicle code but requires a law enforcement officer to witness the harassment; fat chance of that happening. Making it a civil violation puts power back into the hands of the victim. From the official city document:
It is the belief of the City Attorney that the City could enact an ordinance making it a civil
violation of the LAMC for anyone to discriminate against a bicyclist by unlawfully assaulting,
threatening, or harassing a bicyclist, and create a private cause of action with attorneys’ fees for a violation. This would allow bicyclists to seek redress for harassment in situations where the police or other enforcement personnel do not witness the harassment, or where there is insufficient evidence to warrant a criminal filing.

Sounds like a huge step forward in ending motorist harassment of cyclists and I do hope more cities will follow LA’s innovative lead.
Bike chain chair–Chain Rocker
Hot on the heels of the bike chandelier, here’s another fine example of bike part re-use

Are the chains free to move? Would make it pretty interesting to sit in
